Mentoring Helps Deepen Learning

Recent research by Mentoring & Tutoring: Partnership in Learning paired graduate students learning about organizational development (OD) with OD professionals working in the field. The researchers found consistently that mentoring resulted not only in deeper learning but also inspired passion for the work. By taking the students outside the classroom, into the field, they saw relevance and meaningfulness in what they were doing. This reinforces the need for educators to think more deeply, particularly at postgraduate level, about providing mentoring opportunities for students. And for practitioners in the field, why not contact your nearest university that runs a postgrad in your field and offer to mentor?
